Viewing attachments sent by sylpheed
Problem:
Attachments do not appear when sent from sylpheed claws. Description: Only known changes prior to this happening was an upgraded from RH 8 to 9. Test attachments have been an ascii text file and a jpeg image. The test email clients that have been used to view the emails is a web based mail program and outlook. When attachments are sent via Mozilla Mail to either of these clients; the attachments are viewable. But when sent via Sylpheed; they are not viewable. Have compared the duplicate emails from Mozilla Mail and Slypheed and they are exactly the same size and both emails indicate an attachment. Except the Sylpheed attachment can't be seen. This is a little weird, but when I view the test email in Sylpheed it says for the mime type "mulipart/mixed" and the attachment's name carries on the name of the subject line, which is incorrect. I have tried Sylpheed Claws 0.9.0 (original), 0.9.3, and 0.9.4. I have also tried various mime types, and transfer encodings within Sylpheed, including the mime type used by Mozilla Mail with no luck. I'd hate to have to use Mozilla Mail as my email client. thanks |
Right above the message preview window you should see 2 tabs - "Text" and "Attachments". Clicking the Attachments tab should tell you the mime type, the size and the name of the attachment(s). Highlight what you want then right click and you'll be given different choices as to what to do. Btw, I'm using 0.9.0claws.

I use Sylpheed, not Sylpheed Claws. I upgrade every release and have never had the problem you describe. Currently I am using Sylpheed 0.9.5.
I suggest that you report the problem to Hiroyuki Yamamoto as a bug in Sylpheed Claws. You could also install both Sylpheed and Sylpheed Claws by renaming one of them. Then whenever you hit a bug in Sylpheed Claws you could carry on with Sylpheed until Hiroyuki gets the bug fixed. |
hexbit ,
Yes I'm aware of the tabs, text and attachments. That is were it shows under the attachments tab. mime type - multipart/mixed name - attachment name is that of whatever the subject line is called. I did notice that the jpeg attachment is not viewable when I save it to the hard drive. However, text files are viewable. So to correct my earlier statement "Attachments are not viewable outside of Sylpheed and are not fully functional when viewed or saved from within Sylpheed". In the mean time I will see about submitting the bug and trying just Sylpheed and not the claws versions. |
UPDATE!
I works with plain Sylpheed 0.9.5 and shows for the mime/types: image/plain - for the test image email text/plain - for the test text email As opposed to Slypheed-Claws which shows for the mime/types: multipart/mixed Now I need to work on getting Sylpheed Claws working. |
