what is the best way to turn an avi into frames, like take 3 jpegs a second and write it to the hard drive. like 1 2 second avi would produce 6 jpegs.

mplayer -vo jpeg -sstep 1 film.avi

will take one frame per second, not sure about 3 per second, probably a way...
