Video stuttering in Peppermint Six

I have just installed Peppermint Six instead of Mint 13. When I use VLC videos stutter (either DVD or from file). I suspect is it s driver issue, but I am relatively new to Linux, so advice would be appreciated (other than returning to Mint 13!).

I also noticed that Xorg started using 98-100% CPU when trying to play a video.

I also post inxi return in case it is useful.

Thanks

I fought with "stuttering" for months,... but mine was evident whenever playing .flac -- via Audacious, Banshee, VLC -- no matter,-- after a while the stystem would start to stutter-- I called it "The Jitters" : response to inputs -- particularly mouse signals -- was always lethargic . my Firefox was lethargic attempting to scroll.

I have now switched back to using a Behringer UFO202 USB connected DAC . since the switch back the stuttering has not re-curred . I have not reverted to the on-board DAC to try to recreate the problem; to get a positive on the culprit,-- but: I am also using an ASUS motherbnoard ( M5A88-M ) with the on-board Realtec DAC

system now works fine with either pulse audio or with ALSA

the Behringer can be had at Amazon for about thirty bucks
