Video Sound not playing

I've downloaded a vidoe off of Youtube, and i'm trying to edit it using Open Video Editor but all I can hear is this horrible static, when I try to load it up into Avidemux I get an error "Trouble initializing Audio device".
When I play in Banshee or Totem it plays fine with sound.
The decoder is set to ffmpeg which i've made sure I have installed.
I've tried with multiple flash downloaders and downloaded it both as flv and mp4 so neither of those seem to be the problem.
Any ideas?
