video in terminal
Just kind of curious, I tried googling it but can't find anything..
Is there a way to play video in a terminal? That would be much nicer than getting into X, and I'm sure it would make the video play smoother (if even possible). |
Yeah, mplayer can do this from a command line. I believe you'll want to pass the vesa option to play the movie, etc. I can't remember the exact command but I'll dig around as finegan was showing me this in our hotel room at LWE in NYC this past week.. ;)

If you have an Nvidia card you can get ASCII video output from Mplayer. :D

I don't have an nvidia card, I have onboard video, although I can use aaxine which is a plugin for xine that uses ASCII output. I think it's awesome, but it just doesn't do what I want, and everything looks kinda funky.. aaxine is what got me to want to be able to do that in the first place!
Thanks tricky, I'll dig around through some mplayer stuff and see if I can find it. |
Kind of a bump.. Looked through a lot of mplayer stuff to no avail. man mplayer also didn't really help. :\
I finally got video to play through xine, though I can't get it to play through any others. I changed the video driver under xine config to xshm and it works now, not ideal, and I can't play video at fullscreen, but I can play it now! It doesn't just give me that green mess now :\ |
