video in firefox

Im getting really frustrated with getting video to play in firefox on ubuntu. Ive tryed to isntall mplayer to work with it but im stuck at the error The GUI requires GTK devel packages and when trying to ./configure gtk2 i get some not found in $path error. Is there any other way to get video to play in firefox?? Is there an easy ubuntu rpm for mplayer or another way??

try using a simple command to install mplayer.
apt-get install mplayer
this will automatically install all the dependencies, in this case gtk.
