Greetings! alright, here's the scenario... i've ripped a DVD that i'm trying to convert to a simple video file to play on my friend's machine (she's running windows).

every different codec i've tried (which is pretty much every single codec mencoder can handle) windows can't seem to play. i've even tried wmv1 and wmv2 codecs (windows media video v1 and v2 codecs).

i'm really at a loss of what to do here, any help would be appreciated. maybe it's something in mencoder that i'm doing wrong, this is what i've been using to rip/convert the files: mencoder dvd://2 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=wmv1:vpass=1 -oac copy -o movie.avi
i've changed the "vcodec" option to just about everything mencoder lists in the man pages that it can handle

again, i'm at a total loss, thanks for any help.

How does it fail to play?
