Video Encoding From Misc. Formats to MPEG1

I like to download movies and play them on my DVD player. The problem is that Mencoder doesn't like MPEG1 format very much. I would like to be able to encode wmv, avi, MEPEG4, asf, etc. into MPEG1. Any suggestions?

I think dvd::rip and transcode can do what you want. I use it for riping and encoding dvd's.

Thanks for the replies. Those look promising. I'll give them a try.

Have a good one,
