Question video editing software

yeah so i have this crappy little digital video camera and i like to make little insignifiant movies with my brothers. thus, i need a program that would allow me to make basic video editing, like shortening video clips, adding movies, narration and text and little stuff like that.

anyone has something to recommend?

thanks

Also check out kino and avidemux.
