video editing in wine(x)

i have wine, and winex 3.0.

before i go out and buy these expensive software packages, which are meant for windows, does anyone know if they work under wine or winex 3 ???

Pinnacle Studio
Ulead Studio
Windows Movie Maker

(any other pro. quality ones ?)

i want to buy one of them, but i cant return them once their opened, and i find out they dont work under wine. im trying to go without vmware, becsuse using vmware, techinically ill be using windows, and, like most *nixers, i dont do windows.

has anyone run these under linux ???

i have searched around for native linux apps that do video editing, and i've found a few, but im not sure their worth it. Im just looking for soemthing that cuts clips, can extend a clip by slowing it down, merging MP3 files, fad in and out, all the professional stuff, and adding text (like star wars :-) )

A couple of things...

1) I'm afraid that you are going to be disappointed with how any of those products will perform under Wine. You can try Ulead Media Studio by downloading the trial version from their website, though. Linux, at this point, just isn't a good multimedia authoring platform

2) I sure hope that you have more than that 20 gig hard drive for video editing. You'll need MUCH more if you plan on doing more than a dozen minutes at a time

I have to keep a (very inactive) Windows 2000 installation lurking around for my video editing stuff. Don't like it, but as long as I'm dabbling in it that's what is going to have to happen.

yeah, i know about the 20 GB hard drive thing alread. im going to upgrade it to 120 GB, if possible. if not, then just have to make do with a 80 GB hard drive, which i KNOW my system will handle.

well, i am doing, or i am GOING to do some maya in it, and the videos i make will need editing and merging.

so what you're saying is Ulead and a few others WILL work under wine, but very slowly ?
