Video Conversion Software
Can anyone suggest an application that will convert video to avi.xvid, I've only recently started using Linux and I'm trying to find software to do the things Ive been previously doing in XP, I've searched the software centre without any luck, In windows I've been using Xillisoft Video converter which works perfect for me so a similar application would be great, any help would be much appreciated.

I would recommend
ffmpeg and mencoder
Once you learn a little syntax, they will encode anything that mplayer will play.
http://ffmpeg.org/
http://tivo-mplayer.sourceforge.net/...layer-man.html
They are probably in the repository for your flavor of Linux.
There are also some front ends for them.

Thanks for you suggestions my grasp of syntax is very limited so I'm looking for something that involves as little command line as possible, I tried downloading xvidenc but I can't install it I think it needs some command line input and I'm not sure what to do, I did install winff from the software centre and although it looks good I can't get it to convert anything, after I set it to convert a file the teminal window opens with ths message " Duration: 00:02:13.00, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 630 kb/s
Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 320x240 [PAR 1:1 DAR 4:3], PAR 6144:4615 DAR 8192:4615, 25 tbr, 25 tbn, 25 tbc
Stream #0.1: Audio: mp3, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 32 kb/s
Unknown encoder 'libxvid'
Press Enter to Continue" this happens with any file I try to convert, Can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong or how I can fix it
Thanks

The Video Converters directory contains software programs developed to encode, or convert, digital video files from one format to another. Software in this category may convert video to and from AVI, WMV, MOV, and other major file formats. It may also encode video for the PSP, Apple iPhone or iTouch, or other portable media players.
