Video card troubles on Yellowdoglinux 3.0

I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with a problem
I have a old macintosh powerpc 6500,I am running yellowdoglinux 3.0 on it and I am using a ati128 rage 16mg video card in it. This card came out of a blue and white macintosh g3.
The problem is when I try to boot linux with bootx I have to enable the no video driver option on bootx, because that is the only way I can get ydl to run.
otherwise when I uncheck the no video driver option bootx will hang.
can anyone help?

I can use yellowdog linux with no video driver, but my resolution is unsupported and I cannot change my video resolution
