video capture program


hi i have a sony handy cam

can some one suggest me which programme to use for capturing and editing the movie on my handy cam....

im using slackware10.1

Kino is the one I use, it crashes pretty often but (so far) never while recording.
You could use dvgrab, it's a cli-tool for capturing digital video.
MainActor is a commercial program, version 5 has good capturing.
There are probably other app's too, these are the only I've tried.

If it is a digital video-camera you have?
If not, you need a card with video-in - like a TV-card.
Then use xawtv or what I used: streamer.
streamer is text-only, but you will need a lot of computer power to capture analog video! Best is not to run X at all while recording.

yup it is a digital video camera

i guess should i try dv grab...?

i tried installing dvgrab but while configuring it gave me the foll error

libraw1394 0.9 file missing...what is this file and where do i get from?

libraw 1394 has to do with IEEE1394, aka firewire.
Googling I found these links:
libraw1394
Slackware10

With a bit of luck all you need do is install that package, sometimes extra config is needed. Just try it, return here if you need more help.

well till date im unable to get the s/w working..so i thought of usig quicktime4linux

does any1 know from where i can get a torrent for quicktime4linux or can some one seed it for me
