Smile Video & Slide show editing

Hi,

Is anyone aware of a good software I can use to edit movies and slide shows which can be used on OpenSuse 11.

Thank you

mencoder, ffmpeg and some good tutorial on shell scripting. The mencoder man page is quite a lecture for long winter nights. Kino is a popular video editor for GUI fans, but I have found mencoder and ffmpeg more straightforward, even if it requires a shell console.

Hi,

Thanks for that. Where do I find these software to download and will it work on OpenSuse 11. What is shell console?

Cheers

The console is a terminal or command line shell. It is commonly "bash" on Opensuse which is the binary program /bin/bash. It is commonly used in Linux distributions and good to get familiar with. In Opensuse, it depends on what Window Manager how you would open the terminal program. The two main WM are Gnome and KDE.

Opensuse has a Software Management utility called "Yast2" that you can start from the main program menus in either KDE or Gnome. In Yast2 there is a Software Management utility that will allow you to look for software. It can use online repositories for Opensuse and from there you can add ffmpeg or mencoder or kino or other video editing software. Check out opensuse.org for repositories to use.
