Vesa XFree86 with LCD

Hi there,

I am looking for some help configuring XFree86 (3.3.6) to work with my LCD using standard vesa framebuffer drivers in my kernel (2.4.18).

I have to use vesa settings as a hardware incompatibility causes the SiS drivers I should be using to not work (sis drivers and LCD with LVDS straight to the LCD port on my board, ... a long story ).

1) Do I need to use additional drivers for X windows or can X run from the vesa framebuffer drivers?

2) Which X server should I use? (XF86_SVGA does not include 'vesa' drivers. XF86_FBdev another possibility... )

3) Do these X servers work with LCD screens in the firstplace? I assume that if you use the correct modeline they do, but is there a default modeline for VESA settings?

Any help would be _greatly_ appreciated! I really seem to be muddling around at the moment because I am not totally clear on the direction in which I should proceed.
