Very good fonts in mozilla 1.6 on mdk 9.2

I've installed mozilla 1.6 on my mdk box and the thing that strikes me is that the fonts rendering is really good.

Is the default build xft enabled now ? Not from what I can find on their web site but it almost looks like it.

Page rendering is also strinkingly faster

i'm rebuilding moz1.6 on my laptop as we speak, the default SuSE mozilla (1.4) has xft enabled, but the mozilla releases do not. the difference is amazing.
