Veracrypt hangs when mounting container

I appear to have successfully created an encrypted container using
the latest version of Veracrypt (1.21) on my Debian (9) 64 bit system.

However my system seems to hang when I try to mount the container.
Fan gets very noisy I think my system actually shutdown because
it got too hot! (No error messages to help diagnose the problem.)

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Thanks in advance for any all input.

Alas, I have not. Maybe you could strace the application or gdb?

Where did you get the veracrypt package? Was it from the regular debian repositories, or did you compile it yourself?
