Vector Graphics in Linux

Dear all,

I have heard many positive reviews about the GIMP, in comparison to Photoshop. Are there similar software, on the calibre of GIMP on Linux that may be used for vector graphics? Does linux offer anything to compete against such Windows apps as Freehand/Illustrator/CorelDraw ?

go to icewalkers.com and use the search tool on the main page with the keyword "vector" and you'll get something like these:

ImPress:

"ImPressTM is a WYSIWYG layout program designed especially for Linux. It allows you to create presentations and Postscript documents using fully scalable graphics similar to programs like Macromedia Freehand, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator and Visio. It is different from raster graphic packages like gimp, Adobe PhotoShop and Jasc's PaintShop Pro in that it deals with graphical objects which can be ..."

Incscape:

"Inkscape is an open source SVG editor with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, Visio, etc. Supported SVG features include basic shapes, paths, text, alpha blending, transforms, gradients, node editing, svg-to-png export, grouping, and more."

etc. so go and check out...both of those I mentioned above are under GPL licence, so you don't have to pay enormous sums to use them...
