I have searched the forums... I read something about no agp causing a problem but I checked with that, I read a few other things from
http://www.icculus.org/lgfaq/#s3tc but that isn't the problem. The error message I have... they say is not a problem and is totally harmless.. All of the threads I found relating to that message were about drivers that were lacking in support and this is not the case. I have tried to change color depths but whenever I edit the freex config file with the other depths it crashes. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction with a link to the solution on the forum? When I search for the error all I find is irrelevant driver issues.. and when I search for low fps I hear about people complaining that their TNT2 isn't working on their pentium2 400mhz... Thanks
Also to get the fireGL drivers working I had to set agp_try_unsupported=1 for agpgart module options...
I'm using a gigabyte sinxp motherboard with the sis 655 chipset
# North bridge: SiS655 HMAC Host & Memory & AGP Controller
# South bridge: SiS963 MuTIOLĀ® Media I/O
# Intel 82540EM Gigabit LAN chip
# Silicon Image Sil3112A chip
# ITE GigaRAID controller chip
# Realtek ALC650E Audio AC'97 CODEC
# Super I/O: ITE IT8705F chip
# 2 x 2M bit flash ROM
Another thing, I got all of the hardware working Except for the sensors chip.. lm_sensors doesn't read the right temperatures from the chip.. and from what I can tell it isn't a problem with the temps being reported incorrectly, the values simply stay at their initial and never change.. even when telling the module to look at a specific address.
Also I'v got this problem with my Aiptek hyperpen 8000u tablet being treadted as a mouse... It loads the aiptek driver but it isnt in the /proc/driver/usb section where it should be, but thats for another thread =)
And on another note.. There seems to be very weak support for the silicon image 3112 chip in the 2.4 and 2.5 kernels.. even in the 2.6 from what I have experienced, I tried to use a SMP kernel and got it to work with the 2.6 test 2 kernel but the dma wouldn't work correctly.. From what I have heard ati's driver doesnt do smp anyway so i'ts no big deal.. Thanks for any help you guys have to offer.
