UT 2003 low fps on 9700aiw pro

I'm using redhat 9 with 2.4.20-20.9 with the latest firegl drivers
I installed unreal 2003 demo and america's army and both have terrible audio and very low fps. When i get ingame if i look at the ground or sky i get like 150+ fps but when i look at other things its like 2 fps. Other games like quake3 and wolfenstein ET run perfectly fine at 90+fps with all options enabled and on high. Is there some sort of tweak to get Unreal 2003 engine based games running well?
I have p4 3.06, 1gb ddr 400, ati radeon 9700 aiw pro which is more than enough to run it in windows.

I have tried suspending artsd
I also see this error in the terminal after exiting the game:
"Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0"."

When i swap around graphics options in ut2003 and armyops the framerate gets slightly better but remains under 5. I have tried fiddling with the fglrxconfig setup by choosing different compatability modes but that hasn't shown any results. I have looked over the rage3d forums and all over this site.. no answers.

Well, this has actually been answered more than once on other forums you could have found right here just by searching for Xig-Sundry-Nonstandard...
Try changing color depth, or running a window manager that uses less resources.

Really now

I have searched the forums... I read something about no agp causing a problem but I checked with that, I read a few other things from but that isn't the problem. The error message I have... they say is not a problem and is totally harmless.. All of the threads I found relating to that message were about drivers that were lacking in support and this is not the case. I have tried to change color depths but whenever I edit the freex config file with the other depths it crashes. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction with a link to the solution on the forum? When I search for the error all I find is irrelevant driver issues.. and when I search for low fps I hear about people complaining that their TNT2 isn't working on their pentium2 400mhz... Thanks

Also to get the fireGL drivers working I had to set agp_try_unsupported=1 for agpgart module options...
I'm using a gigabyte sinxp motherboard with the sis 655 chipset
# North bridge: SiS655 HMAC Host & Memory & AGP Controller
# South bridge: SiS963 MuTIOLĀ® Media I/O
# Intel 82540EM Gigabit LAN chip
# Silicon Image Sil3112A chip
# ITE GigaRAID controller chip
# Realtek ALC650E Audio AC'97 CODEC
# Super I/O: ITE IT8705F chip
# 2 x 2M bit flash ROM

Another thing, I got all of the hardware working Except for the sensors chip.. lm_sensors doesn't read the right temperatures from the chip.. and from what I can tell it isn't a problem with the temps being reported incorrectly, the values simply stay at their initial and never change.. even when telling the module to look at a specific address.

Also I'v got this problem with my Aiptek hyperpen 8000u tablet being treadted as a mouse... It loads the aiptek driver but it isnt in the /proc/driver/usb section where it should be, but thats for another thread =)

And on another note.. There seems to be very weak support for the silicon image 3112 chip in the 2.4 and 2.5 kernels.. even in the 2.6 from what I have experienced, I tried to use a SMP kernel and got it to work with the 2.6 test 2 kernel but the dma wouldn't work correctly.. From what I have heard ati's driver doesnt do smp anyway so i'ts no big deal.. Thanks for any help you guys have to offer.

Alright ut2003 works now, I upgraded to the newly released ATI drivers:
Works fine, don't even have to run agpgart nor pass use unsupported..
The sound randomly works and doesnt works when I start itup but I'll figure that out
