using Xine to listen to music=good
 

Hi,

I have a problem using xmms with Mozilla and dial-up(via kppp)at the same time.

Basically, whenever I activate xmms the connection to the internet stays alive but throughput stops. If I stop xmms the throughput starts up again immediately-no need to reconnect etc.

So, I decided to use xine to play music cds while surfing and WOW, the sound output from xine is way better than the sound from xmms (I have on-board AC'97 audio, Compaq 6030th computer and some OK Kenwood speakers from a few years ago)

Xine seems to use a little more system resources than xmms, fluctuating between 25% and 5% but I see no difference in system useability and the improved sound quality is remarkable.

Only small annoyances are that the volume in xine GUI is reset to maximum seemingly at random but I can use the speaker volume control to get around that :) and I can't find a way to turn off visualisations: I have a list of 4 options, none of which are "none" :rolleyes:

Anyway Xine is rockin' right now (Red Hot Chili Peppers-Very Best Of :cool: )

Xine works great with mp3s too! :)

Ive used Xine, and I say it furfills its purpose pretty well. However, it isnt all that good at playing avis. If you want something like that, try MPlayer.
