using vlc to play wmp app on iceweasel

Hello all,

just reinstalled my debian distribution with Squeeze. Iceweasel still cannot play windows media player app. I have a few questions since I would like not to install WMP (which i probably did on Lenny).

1) I was wondering whether vlc could do the same. I understand that Mplayer can, but since I already have vlc, why not use it.
2) If yes, is it that I just have to add a vlc plugin at /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ ?

thx,

So far, VLC has played every windows media file I've thrown at it. (I'm wondering whether MS has given up on tinkering with the *.wm? codecs every few months or so.)

I would just associate the windows media files with VLC in the Iceweasel preferences (Edit-->Preferences-->Applications) and let the browser pass them to VLC in its own window, rather than messing about with a plugin, but there is a VLC plugin available.
