Using Samba

Hi. I want to use Samba to give access to users over a network who are using Windows machines. I've created the nobody account but still when I try to access my machine from a Windows machine, it doesn't accept it. Also, how can I share some files so that other users can access them. And is there any software for Linux that can scan the network and tell me who has shared what. Something like Sharescan. Thanks.

The username does not matter. Whatever user name you choose, don't forget to run smbpasswd on it. Create the new smb password entry as root...
# smbpasswd -a nobody
You'll be prompted to enter a passwd, this'll be the password used by the windows users to connect to nobody's shares. Once root does this then the user nobody can log in and change their own smbpasswd.
If you already knew about this, we'll need more information about what you've done or not done yet.

Actually I didn't. Thanks a lot. Now for the second part, how can I share some files so that Windows users can access them?

Everything else is done in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file.
After making changes, restart the server and it should allow windows to connect.
I'm going from memory but you first need to edit the line
workgroup=WORKGROUP
I think it probably is there, just commented out by default.
Next go to the bottom of the file and take a look at some of the examples for creating a shared directory. There's one there for just about every type of usage.
Lastly, man smb.conf is a great reference too.
