Using programs that are not embedded in your Version of Linux, How-To??

First let me state that I love Kubuntu 7.10 gutsy & I am a relative Newbie.

But, when I was exploring other Distro's, I found other Software that I liked, that was not in kubuntu. I am sure we all have done this.
I know you can add software through the Package mgr's.
But my Question is:
Konqueror is the embedded File Mgr in Kde, Right?
Can you also use......say, Nautilus file mgr in Kde??? If so....How?
I realize Konqueror is also a Browser.
I realize Konqueror is Kde & Nautilus is Gnome.
I have installed most all Nautilus files, but still do not see the program listed in my applications where I can click on it & put an Icon on Desktop,etc..
It is listed as installed in my Pkg Managers.

Is it because Konqueror is embedded & won't let Nautilus surface????

Can Kde & Gnome.......Co-habitate together??

Thank You for your help in advance

You can install both KDE and Gnome SW in the same system--the package manager will automatically take care of the dependencies.

You can only run one desktop at a time---eg KDE or Gnome. But you can have two sessions running--one KDE and one Gnome--- and toggle between them using ctrl-alt-F7, F8, etc. (or use "Switch user") While you CAN log in twice with the same username, some SW will refuse to run in both sessions (eg Thunderbird) If you want to jump back and forth a lot, just make another username.

There are various places to set defaults for which app handles which file. first, simply rt-click on a file, select "open with" and "other". Select the default app and then check the box "remember application association..." (This for KDE, Gnome has something equivalent.)
