Using partimage to backup HD?

Ok, my hard drive on my laptop is dying a slow death.

I want to backup all of my data and once I get the HD fixed, I want to be able to copy the image back onto the new HD, instead of doing a new install.

Is this doable with partimage?

I've never done imaging before, but I know about it and have seen it used in the IT world.

thanks

Yes it will work fine. I would get the Recovery CD from here and burn it to a CD. It has partimage on it. You cannot run it on the drive itself unless the partitions you want to backup can be unmounted.
