I've decided after all that this is not the best choice. For anyone else working with intergrating Ubuntu into Active directory note that nautilus-connect-server uses something called gnome-vfs to refer to the network connections. gnome-vfs is integrated into some gnome apps but is not compatible with many non gnome apps. The result is if you "map" a network directory and you want to save something from firefox for example you will not be able to select the network directory. Too bad,
