Using Montage to place two images side by side as a single image

2017-10-21

I am trying to merge two vertical images of similar size into a single file.

jordan1.jpg (width=384 pixels, height=612 pixels, size=85.9 kB), jordan2.jpg (width=563 pixels, height=338 pixels, size=56.4 kB).

When I issue the following command to merge the two images into one, the second image always appears horizontally, perpendicular to the first image.

Code:
montage jordan1.jpg jordan2.jpg -geometry +0+0 jordan.jpg
I need to state that this is my first time to use Montage. Any help from this forum will be greatly appreciated.

Code:
 -tile 2x1
probably the missing bit for you. Although padding and other things to take out the non-image bits.

Hi, ondoho and Shadow_7,

Thanks very much for your advice.

I finally discovered that the problem was with the second image file. Even though it appeared like a portrait just like the first image. A look at the second file's width and height in terms of pixels reveals something abnormal. If it were a true portrait, pixel-wise the width should be smaller than the height. Actually its width is 563 pixels and height 338 pixels for some strange scanning-related reason.

Since both original image files were obtained by scanning two pictures, I decided to re-scan them using Simple Scan instead of the previous scanning program. Happily, the resulting new scans correctly yielded images with a smaller pixel width than height in both cases. When I re-ran montage, I obtained a picture with the two images appearing side by side properly as expected.

Code:
montage jdn1.jpg jdn2.jpg -geometry +0+0 jdn.jpg

i think in english one would say "height" instead of "depth".

ondoho,

Please note that I had the word 'height' right in my very first message. Even in my second message, I wrote 'width and height' in the second sentence. But immediately after that, I wrote 'depth' in lieu of height. I hope that you detected that as an obvious mental slip, not a deliberate word choice.

When you get to my advanced age, it's not unusual for the mind to go awry or flip unpredictably any time. Thanks for correcting my English just the same. You're a keen observer indeed.
