using Gentoo testing packages

I recently installed gentoo, and have been liking it thus far. I have been unable to figure out how to use testing packages, though, since portage seems to only want to use the ones in stable. I'm sure there's a way, but can someone tell me how to use packages in the testing area with portage? Thanks in advance.

Unstable packages

you need to read up on how to install masked packages on the Gentoo website.
