Using Audacity to clean up a wav file

Has anyone out there played with Audacity to clean up a wav file? Specifically using the noise removal and using the FFT. Basically, I'm new to sound editing and would like a step by step aid to help me learn how to clean up wav files. I can't see how it would matter but I'm running FC4 on an AMD athlon 64 processor.

Thanks!

Steve

I've used Audacity and GWC (Gnome Wave Cleaner) for denoise, it seemed to work better than audacity, but I was cleaning a wav file with a lot of clicks.

Here's a link with a list of various utilities
