Using Amarok with Xine engine, strange error message

hi

this is a strange one, more of an annoyance really. I have Amarok and use Xine as the playback engine. all my Mp3s, WMVs, OGGs etc all play just fine, however, I recently updated my version of Xine and Amarok (using Guru and Packman as installation sources).

then, I installed a couple of Amarok Scripts via Script Manager - format converter, cover manager and lyric help - and restarted Amarok

Now when I start Amarok i get a popup in saying "Xine is reporting it cannot play MP3s, please use another Engine or (something about the MP3 setup)" only, I can still play MP3s just fine.

Has anyone else had this problem, it is more annoying than anything else and I don't really want to uninstall format converter as it allows me to quickly reformat my WMVs to OGGs on the fly.

That should only happen if you accidentilly didn't use Guru or Packman repositories. If you upgraded via your distro, it is probably disabled, as SuSE, FC, and others disabled it and release disabled versions of amarok-xine, mad, and others. What you need to do, is disable all but one source. choose only guru, or only packman. and then try again.

Hey RedShirt

How's it going? Thank you again for your help, I uninstalled the Amarok Scripts I had installed, then disabled all but the GURU repository, reinstalled Xine and MAD, reinstalled the Amarok Scripts and now everything's a OK.
