Question Using a Windows XP client to set permissions on a Samba share

Any ideas on how to use a Windows XP client (in an active directory environment) to set permissions on a folder or file located on a Linux Server running Samba? I'm looking for a way similar to how a
WinXP client sets permissions on folders on a windows file server(GUI)...right -clicking on the folder icon, setting the permissions, and having the permissions stay set on the samba share. I''m part of a team that is researching different possibilities....however, we're looking for other options....Any suggestions?

I haven't followed the cutting edge development with Samba 4 and such, but I am almost positive you can't do that. At the very least, I have never heard of that feature, and I have worked with Samba quite a bit.

Samba's permissions are set by both the directives in the smb.conf file, and the actual file permissions on the local server.

Lightbulb RE: Cutting Edge

I've just received this from the CentOS development team:

You will need to enable / mount your samba partition with posix ACLs to have the permissions controls you want.

http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/do...4/ch-acls.html

You will also need to ensure that the following is ON in your smb.conf:

nt acl support = Yes

***Haven't had the chance to test this yet, but it looks promising****
