user rights for WINE

Hi, I recently installed wine (as root) and thought I'd give it a shot by installing trillian (aim client-dealy)

It installed without a hitch as root, but didnt work when attempted as a user. After installing I ran trillian as root and it came up perfectly, using TTF fonts and all. When running with user only rights, it gives a few errors (from trillian) about not being able to find it's skin and then evnentually loads but without any of the "pretty" fonts and what not. I figure this is probably because wine is setup with certain rights for ROOT only, while denying rights to certain areas (like the fake windows setup made by WINE) to my user account. How can I configure WINE to allow equal access to my user account as it does to my root account?

Wine 20040213
Red Hat 9.0

Thanks!

...If it's not possible, is there a way I can load trillian with SU access without needing an open terminal? Like a script or something that I could link to with a shortcut/icon?

Did you install trillian as a regular user?

KrazyGandhi 02-24-2004 10:14 PM

No, It wouldn't install with user rights... Wine would load, and the trillian setup would complete, but the install/setup files were never copied to the fake windows directory (/root/.wine/c/......)

Wine was installed as root as well.

EDITED ~~~

I've managed to get trillian to load without errors by copying the trillian dir created by the setup (in the fake .wine/ dir) to my user home directory and using SUDO to run the command. I've configured sudo to allow my usr account root access without pw prompt so I can create an icon on my desktop running the command " sudo wine /home/usr/trillian/trillian.exe "

There is still however some issues. Trillian still doesn't load with the propper TTF fonts and nice clean look that I get when running it as root. There has to be something going on with Wine. Anyone?

Are you using the latest winehq.org build?

Yep, I sure am. (listed in first post)

You need to install wine to /home/username/.wine/c/...... My fake Windows directory is /home/njbrain/c/, and all works fine. If you re-run wine setup as a regular user, all should work fine.:)
Hope all works for you.
