usb touchscreen programming

Hi,

I am trying to interface an iLCD touchscreen display which has an usb interface. The device shows up as /dev/hiddev0 and I am able to get the device info by ioctl in HIDIOCGDEVINFO. But how do I read or send commands to the device?

I am using RHEL 5 and 2.6.18 kernel. I am programming in C and trying to send commands and read the inputs from the screen. What I would really like to know is if I can use file streaming for that purpose. If not, is there any usb hid driver I need to install?

Go to the vendors product page, download the "iLCD Command Set" PDF file, in the "Sample Source Code" chapter you will find links to two source code examples, one for serial/usb and one for I2C.
Studying the source code should give you a first insight on how to communicate with your iLCD.
