Usb-to-Serial

Hi,

On a linux box I'm currently using there is a usb-to- serial port hub connected to the pc. So one usb-cabel goes out from the pc in to the hub and out of the hub there are two serial cable that are connected to a external piece of hardware. How can I access the two serial ports? Do I need to install a driver or ?

Using Fedora core4 with kernel 2.6.10

Appreciate any help.

The ports are usually /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 (for a two port unit). If you have additional serial USB device, the numbers may be shifted, depending on the order the devices were recognized at system boot. There should be messages in your dmesg or /var/log/messages that identify the ports. For example:

kernel: keyspan 3-1:1.0: Keyspan 4 port adapter converter detected
kernel: usb 3-1: Keyspan 4 port adapter converter now attached to ttyUSB0
kernel: usb 3-1: Keyspan 4 port adapter converter now attached to ttyUSB1
kernel: usb 3-1: Keyspan 4 port adapter converter now attached to ttyUSB2
kernel: usb 3-1: Keyspan 4 port adapter converter now attached to ttyUSB3
kernel: usbcore: registered new driver keyspan
