Exclamation usb mouse and kernel

I have a minor issue concerning my usb mouse and my new kernel 2.4.19.

With the standard Rh7.2 kernel my usb mouse is detected by kudzu on boot up and configured to work, however with my kernel 2.4.19 i have included support via xconfig for usb. When i boot up my new kernel kudzu arrives with the option to configure my usb mouse which i do and then once x has loaded the mouse cursor is there but the mouse doesn't work!

is there a config file that my source uses to build the kernel, one i can load into xconfig? just so i have the right options selected? and so i dont have to go through that huge load of questions? and maybe then my usb mouse may work!

i have had the mouse working with this kernel version before but not this time.

See what /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 says about your mouse, what protocol it reports it uses and device it is assigned to, most usb mice use IMPS/2 protocol and /dev/input/mice device on RH systems. Also in your kernel yu do have USB support enabled, don't you?

Question /etc/x11/xf86Config-4

Here is an extract from my xf86Config-4 file.

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
# Modified by mouseconfig
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

Im not sure what is going on here but it seems the protocol my mouse is using is PS/2, is that right i mean i am using my usb mouse right now (with this protocol)

or should it say something else there?
is there no file which contains the current xconfig settings for my current kernel?

what does that # Modified by mouseconfig bit of the file refer to.

thanx for your help once again! much appreciated
