USB Joystick help

I have a Raider FX Advanced USB joystick (/dev/input/js0) that KDE can see and calibrate via the control center.

However, it does not work with Flightgear or Racer. These apps say that the Joystick is not detected. I have edited the ini files according to the appropriate documentation, but even in a debug mode where I can see the Axises (Axi?), I get no detection, no response.

Anyone have any ideas?

I do not know Flightgear or Racer so I do not have any ideas, but at least I think that if you can see and calibrate the joystick via the control center it must be a problem with the games.
