USB hotplug not responding.

Running Slackware 10.0./2.6.7 Hotplug system has worked flawlessly, but now is not responding to insertion and removal of a USB storage device. It lists the device as connected when it is not. 'lsusb' lists it, and '/etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug status' lists it. Restarting hotplug does not solve the problem.

The storage device is a Compact Flash card reader. Normally, one finds it as /dev/sda1, although with the 2.6 kernel it must be removed and reinserted before the device listing shows up. It is then mounted as vfat to a /mnt point, dumped to a directory, umounted and removed. All I find listed is /dev/sda, which is normally there in any case.

Is that enough information? If so, what must I do or where should I look to resolve this?

Thanks for reading, wtallman
