usb hard drive mounts and umnounts

I just upgraded from fedora 27 to fedora 29. Now when I plub in my external USB backup hard drive, it automounts, and then unmounts a few seconds later, only to repeat the cycle every few seconds.
I tried the drive on another PC running fedora 26, and it works just fine.
Therefore, I think this is a problem with fedora 28 or 29.
Any advice for fixes or workarounds?
Thanks.

You could turn off the auto-mount feature and see if that solves the problem.

If you're using gnome enter the following into a terminal:

to read the current value

Quote:
gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount
to change the value to false

Quote:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount false

Maybe it's an improvement rather than a problem per se. Perhaps it's more sensitive to the USB, or the device, dropping voltage.

Run udevadm monitor on both systems with the device plugged in and see what events are being handled.
I've seen similar on dodgy USB interfaces, and on devices that really need external power rather than what older USB ports can deliver.

I just tried it again, after doing a 'dnf upgrade', and the problem has gone away.
Thanks for your suggestions.
