USB drive in Suse 9.3 -Problems ?????? Galore!!!!!!

HMMM
some very confusing happenings going on w/my Suse 9.3 box , same old Pentium 3 1.2 ghz ,784 MB ram , Voodoo FX vidcard ,dvd-r(pioneer).

When I insert my 4Gigbyte USBdrive ,It is recognized, but takes some time to open up.

I am suspecting it is my Small Memory setup 784 Mb ,as compared to my USB drive ,4gb.

When the drive is opened up ,all my Files & icons are visible.

However ,if I click on them ,the WHOLE computer FREEZES up ,starting with my mouse. What is going On!!!??

adios ,stu

The freezing USB dongle

Have you checked in your log files such as dmesg or syslog, first place to look every time a problem that seems mysterious occurs?

Have you run lsusb before you try to access the usb dongle and then again after you freeze up?

Let me know what you find and then perhaps an answer may be given to solve your problem.

Second part of freezing dongle

Have you tried using the keyboard arrow keys to select an Icon (or whatever keys you use to move around) and then pressing enter?

Is the mouse a USB mouse and are there conflicts in using the USB setup?
