A result

Finally I contacted a friend with the same distro and compared our urpmi files. He had which I did not. He copied it to me and now everything performs as it should.

It is not clear to me what the exact problem was and why it would not work. Still, however inelegantly, I have arrived where I want to be.

Sorry about the delay, I have been away for a few days. It is a 17 Mb file. I did:

# ls -l /var/lib/urpmi/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 17606101 Jun 11 15:09 /var/lib/urpmi/

#less /var/lib/urpmi/
and paste the only "human readable" bit at the end of this message.

I assume that the file contains details of every program available by urpmi with descritprion, size, version etc.

I just want to say that this thread helped me bigtime! I needed to install GCC, and all the dependancies, rather than dealing with RPMSearch, I just installed the MAIN ftp (I'm remote so I can't add CD's) and voila!

Thanks again guys, this site rocks for a newbie like me!
