urgently need to change screen res w/o restart
 

a problem with my screen has led to me currently using a 640x480 screen with a 1024x768 desktop. i can use it as i can scroll around the screen with my mouse, but i really need to get it back to 1024x768. restarting will lose several hours of work (which cannot be saved grrr). is there a command i can use to change it back? it happened when i tried to start a game with winex, and then the screen went black and i had to switch to console (with ctrl+alt+f6) and killall winex3, killall wine and then switch back to see anything.

oops - was using the wrong plus and minus - i was using the ones on the normal section of the keyboard, and i needed the ones on hte numpad:newbie:
