UPS for Fedora Core 4

I'm looking for software that I can use for an Uninterruptale Power Supply (UPS), preferably an APC or Belkin brand, to control a PC running Fedore Core 4 Linux.

Check out apcupsd.

Make sure you choose one which is supported by ups monitoring software, which is probably why Matir mentioned apcupsd, another ups monitoring software is nut In my experience the vendors software for Linux isn't very good, even the Windows software for my UPS is rubbish

Nice, I was not aware of nut. Have you used both? If so, how do they compare?

I haven't used apcupsd, I have a Liebert UPS but I have used nut and yeah it seemed allright though my particular UPS isn't supported I managed to bodge my way round though using a driver that partially worked.

If I have to replace my UPS I will check the nut hardware list and choose a UPS supported then I can use it.

All Liebert UPS's will work with NUT via the driver included with the software package.

All Liebert UPS implement a contact closer accessible via the RS232 Port, the driver written for NUT will support this interface. You may need a different cable... but it will work.

I used apcupsd

I have an APC Backup UPS RS 800. I used the USB cable that it came with. In Fedora Core 4, apcupsd is included and needs minimal configuration for USB. Works great. Even the CGI GUI program works great.
