Upgrading to KDE 3.3 problems

i have rh 9 and im trying to upgrade to the lastest version of kde. im using konstruct and i think its mostly done, but i get a pretty undescriptive (least for me) error:

You're missing bzip2 development files.
make[2]: *** [configure-work/kdelibs-3.3.0/configure] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/kde/konstruct/kde/kdelibs'
make[1]: *** [dep-../../kde/kdelibs] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/kde/konstruct/kde/kdebase'
make: *** [dep-../../kde/kdebase] Error 2

id really like to get this working. where can i get these bzip2 devel files it needs? any ideas?

thanks

Good - your configure finished. Start make now

any ideas on this problem? sure would hate to give up on it after investing so much time in it thus far.

Try (re)installing aspell.

If you're on Mandrake, you can try:
# urpmi libaspell libaspell-devel

Rv5, we have exactly the same problem. Were you able to solve it?

I was able to compile the arts packages but when I got to compile
the kdelibs, I got the following output:

root@bok:/home/mark/Desktop/kde/kdelibs-3.3.1# make
make all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/mark/Desktop/kde/kdelibs-3.3.1'
Making all in dcop
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/mark/Desktop/kde/kdelibs-3.3.1/dcop'
cd .. && /bin/sh /home/mark/Desktop/kde/kdelibs-3.3.1/admin/missing --run autoheader
configure.in:24: error: Autoconf version 2.58 or higher is required
aclocal.m4:525: AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE is expanded from...
configure.in:24: the top level
autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1
autoheader2.50: /usr/bin/autom4te failed with exit status: 1
make[2]: *** [dcop-path.h.in] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/mark/Desktop/kde/kdelibs-3.3.1/dcop'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/mark/Desktop/kde/kdelibs-3.3.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2
root@bok:/home/mark/Desktop/kde/kdelibs-3.3.1#

For the line which says: "configure.in:24: error: Autoconf version 2.58 or higher is required",
I don't think its giving the correct error message since I checked my autoconf version with
"autoconf --version" and it says its "autoconf 2.58"

Anybody out there who can help us?

rebuilding my kdelibs ver 3.1 on RH 9 I had to tweak some of the libraries. The one I remember: the script was bitching it can't find the libart_lgpl_2.so because the smart guys at RH forgot to make a symlink in /usr/bin to libart_lgpl_2.so; there was only a symlink named lilbart_lgpl_2.so.0 ... to the actual library file...

I believe this is standard procedure, when some OS-es rise to prominence and volunteers are replaced by marketeers..
