upgrading mysql/php,etc from suse linux yast

Hi. Let me start by saying I am rather new to Linux :-) So, I installed Suse Linux 10 Eval edition on my computer. When I installed, I basically selected everything because, when attempting to install Linux in the past, I have always had problems with missing dependencies, etc when comipling programs. So I figured the more the better! Now, this choice installed a lot of stuff including php 4, mysql 4, apache 2,etc. Some of these programs are the wrong version and/or configured incorrectly for my needs. For example, I would like to upgrade php4 to 5 mysql to 5, and set it up correctly for my needs. I am confused about what has happened during the install. Is the source for these available on my machine? I cannot find it anywhere. I have gone into that Yast thing and I see how to delete upgrade, etc. However, I don't see how to upgrade to a new version. Also, there is some software (Apache for example) that is already at the latest version. However, a feature I want is not enabled but I cannot figure out how to recompile Apache. I think I can uninstall it using Yast, download and reinstall it and configure it as I like. That works for Apache but not for others because there are dependencies with other programs. For example, when I tried to uninstall MySql 4 using Yast there were all kinds of shared depend. warnings telling me not to do this. I would like to really do the following:

Upgrade Mysql and php 4 to their 5.0 versions
after the upgrade configure them to my needs (and at some later point I might need to reconfigure them)

Is this possible with Yast or some other visual manager? If not, how can I remove the programs, then install the new ones without breaking all the dependencies with other programs?

Can someone help with this? Thanks very much!
