upgrading driver after booting off knoppix cd
I just burned a copy of the knoppix Linux CD and it works great. The ONLY reason I plan to use knoppix is to boot my laptop with it and to run Kismet to scan my network for rogue wireless networks.
I'm new to this so hopefully this isn't too dumb of a question. The problem I'm having is that kismet will not work properly until I upgrade my wireless NIC driver to support monitor mode. I know how to do this but obviously booting off a read only CD complicates the issue.
My question: is there a way I can upgrade my driver after booting off the knoppix CD, say to the RAM drive, so I can upgrade my driver just for that session, so I can use Kismet just for that session? I figure if I can get it working I can just let it run and wouldn't need to reboot for long periods of time. If I reboot, then I would just reupgrade the driver each time.
Just wondering if this is possible or if there are other tips I should be considering.
Thanks
