HI,
i have a linux machine with RHEL4AS, 2.4.2 kernel,
i was unable to upgrade the kernel, can anyone help mewith a site which shows step by step how to install and upgrade the kernel.
The reason im trying to upgrade the kernel is because that some new hardware doesnt work , when i googled on the issue most sites said that we need to upgrade the kernel and install ALSA for the sound card to work, i installed ALSA but the soundcard still doesnt work.
please help me on this.
thanks!
vidya
rhel4 uses a 2.6 kernel, not a 2.4 by default, and most definitely not 2.4.2, as that was out about 3 years before rhel4. essentially you'd just get the kernel rpm you want and install it... "rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.15.el4.rpm" etc... this will add in bootloader options for you etc... then if you're happy it's running fine, remove the old one... "rpm -e kernel-2.4.21" as you can happily have a number of kernels installed at once.
why is an AS4 server concerned with using a sound card though? that's for HEAVY stuff... Oracle RAC etc...
