Updatting my kernel

Hi All
I have been having problems getting my ATI radeon 9000 working with VIA KT400 chipset. Most of the post I read state this works fine in Kernel 2.4.22. I am running RedHat 9 and there latest kernel is 2.4.20 (using up to date feature). I have searched google and I find 2 files 1 is source and one is patch. Will running the patch update my kernel ? Can I update my kernel or do I need a customized version for redhat ? AS I am sure you can tell I am new to all this so I link to the correct files with good instructions would be appreciated

Thanks

Try to update your kernel via the package manager first.
