Updated to KDE 3.4.1 now KMail won't send mail.

I'm running Slackware 10.1. I recently updated KDE to version 3.4.1 using slackware builds from the KDE site.

Now, KMail is giving the following error message when I try to send mail:

Sending failed:
Authorization failed, An error occured during authentication: SASL(-4): no mechanism available: No worthy mechs found authentication not supported

I reinstalled cyrus-sasl-2.1.20 to see if this would solve the problem, but this didn't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.
