updated to cups 1.2.10 from 1.1.19/now printconf will not let me edit/add printers
system: RHES4 uname -a= 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp #1 SMP Mon Sep 25 17:24:31 EDT 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Cups is up and running BUT I cannot make any changes through printconfig. I’m accessing this site through putty so I have no access to the gui interface. Before I upgraded printconfig worked fine. Now it does not save anything to the print configuration. If I use lpadmin to add printers it works fine. Did I miss something? I really need the printconf because I need to set up some remote printers.

I had someone onsite use the console and go into printers from there and none of the changes that they make stay either. I had them edit a laser printer that I setup (that was defaulting to raw print queue)to a laserjet. Once she applies it, goes out and comes right back in it goes back to raw print queue. I'm not sure why.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks all

It appears that the permissions are not the same. On a working system the /etc/cups directory permissions are drwxrwxr-x and on the system I'm having problems with they are drwxr-xr-x and inside the directory printers.conf permissions are -rw------- where as on the working system they are -rw-r-----. Everytime I change the permissions and run printconf the permissions are beging changed back. I'm stumped.

**EDIT #2**
I have this error in the /var/log/cups/error_log

PID 22218 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster) stopped with status 1!
I [23/Apr/2007:17:23:41 -0400] Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to find out more.

Could this be affecting anything?

any help will now be GREATLY GREATLY appreciated. hahaha
