I have IBM eserver 360 x series machine with 4gb ram and installed the Linux 2.1 with kernel version “kernel-enterprise-2.4.9-e.3”.
I want to update the kernel from kernel-enterprise-2.4.9-e.3 to kernel-enterprise-2.4.9-e.8. Can any body tell me which packages from the given below packages I need to install on my pc. thanks Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v. 2.1 for i386): kernel-summit-2.4.9-e.8.i686.rpm Kernel-source-2.4.9-e.8.i386.rpm kernel-smp-2.4.9-e.8.i686.rpm kernel-smp-2.4.9-e.8.athlon.rpm kernel-headers-2.4.9-e.8.i386.rpm kernel-enterprise-2.4.9-e.8.i686.rpm kernel-doc-2.4.9-e.8.i386.rpm kernel-debug-2.4.9-e.8.i686.rpm kernel-BOOT-2.4.9-e.8.i386.rpm kernel-2.4.9-e.8.i686.rpm kernel-2.4.9-e.8.athlon.rpm |
kernel source should allow you to compile your own kernel, the others are preconfigured kernels, smp is for multi-processor machines doc and debug are packages your probly dont need headers are for gcc and something that isnt the type of thing it helps you to upgrade really

then you should only need i686 however i386 will work the first is only a bit more optimized for newer hardware
