update


Hi , i was trying to update my redhat linux system and I tryed to register and it told me that it had problems registering my user name , and i used a normal name like clay. I need to upadte because it's important. could some one help me , and tell me if i did some thing wrong.

Better than up2date is either apt or yum... I would suggest going to freshrpms.net/apt/ , and downloading and installing apt.

With apt, or yum, you don't need to register. The program just calls out to an open-to-the-public server and checks for updates. You can also use either to install new software, or remove software you don't want anymore. Both take care of dependencies.

if you can access the internet from your redhat box, just go to www.redhat.com and go to security and errata; just download the updates from there and install them with

su (enter root password)
rpm -Uvh name.rpm
